SUMMARY:Data-to-Deal Side Event
DESCRIPTION:Developing nations often face formidable barriers to unlocking climate finance. These include the absence of high-level political support\, weak institutional capacity\, disjointed planning processes\, limited access to data and modelling tools to support rigorous technical analysis\, little stakeholder engagement\, inadequate policy frameworks\, and the lack of a clear financing strategy. With panel participation from the 2050 Pathways Platform\, this session will explain how the Data-to-Deal approach aims to address all of these aspects in a sustained\, integrated and holistic manner. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis event is organised by the University of Cambridge\, University of Oxford\, Imperial College London\, UCL\, Loughborough University\, and Open University and the KTH Royal Institute of Technology.

SUMMARY:Country Experiences in Laying the Foundations for Long-term Low Emission Development Strategies
DESCRIPTION:This event will bring together country delegates to share their diverse experiences and reflections on their LT-LEDS journeys. The foundational steps that countries can take towards the full development of their LT-LEDS will be showcased. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThese experiences range from kick-starting Long-Term Vision (LTV) discussions\, creating stakeholder buy-in around a shared vision and defining a country’s own process towards a full LT-LEDS – to bringing it all together under a finalised strategy that can be translated into concrete investment planning and an operationalisation plan. The panel is expected to include government representatives from Jamaica\, Pakistan\, Rwanda\, Senegal and Tanzania (tbc). \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis event is being organised as part of a wider project funded by the German International Climate Initiative (IKI) in which the 2050 Pathways Platform has been actively engaged in supporting five countries across various stages of LT-LEDS formulation. Central to this effort is a robust focus on fostering national consensus through inclusive and consultative approaches\, aiming to pinpoint both socio-economic and climate aspirations\, weaving them into a vision that is genuinely owned by the country.

SUMMARY:Long-term climate vision and development strategies: lessons from Senegal and Nigeria
DESCRIPTION:Only a few African countries have submitted LT-LEDS to-date. Going forward\, LT-LEDS in African countries must align climate and development objectives by considering national circumstances and challenges\, including low energy access\, industrialization needs and high vulnerability to economic- and climate shocks and climate resilience. In the context of just transition\, LTV and LT-LEDS development requires a strong buy-in from national stakeholders\, a policy-relevant degree of details on long-term priorities\, and a nationally led and country owned process of elaboration. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBuilding on lessons learnt in the ongoing project in Nigeria and Senegal\, this event will discuss challenges with building LTV and LT-LEDS in an African context\, and how to ensure that LTV and LT-LEDS can effectively support the achievement of climate and multi-scale development objectives. Furthermore\, the event will also discuss how LTV and LT-LEDS can be useful in structuring international financial cooperation in support of its implementation. The 2050 Pathways Platform will be participating in the panel discussion.

DESCRIPTION:The event aims to initiate a dialogue on Moroccan’s Net Zero Framework and the dialogues on the implementation and operationalisation of the country’s Long-term Vision and Long-term Low Emission Development Strategy (LT-LEDS). The 2050 Pathways Platform will be giving opening remarks reflecting on the LT-LEDS work to date in Morocco. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe panel will also include a discussion on the challenges and opportunities associated with the implementation of the LT-LEDS in Morocco\, and approaches to mobilising public and private investments to better support the various national and local stakeholders in this effort and transform these ambitious objectives in results on the ground.
